Tokyo Motor Show - Honda

19 October 2005
What will actually make it into showrooms?
This Sports 4 Concept is no mere Tokyo show flight of fancy – it provides several useful pointers to Honda’s 2008 replacement for the Accord family car.

Following hot on the heels of the Civic hatchback, this confirms a bold new design direction for the traditionally conservative Japanese company.

What’s good about it?
The sleek looks are the best bit, but it also packs a raft of high-tech gadgets, many of which will make it to production. A glass roof creates an airy cabin, while night vision and a head-up display to project important info onto the windscreen could all be offered on the next Accord.

Maddest car?
Got to be the WOW concept car. This barking mad show special is a designer’s far-flung idea of a car tailor-made for dog lovers. There’s even a special compartment, housed where the glovebox normally sits, to transport Fido – and special leash attachments on the B-pillars for tying your dog to.

Anything else?
The new FCX concept car is Honda’s latest fuel-cell vision. It boasts a smaller electric engine and energy pack to make more space for passengers – and Honda is developing a home-refuelling system, which doubles up to provide domestic electricity and hot water supply.
