Tokyo motor show - Lexus hybrid concept cars

24 October 2007
Lexus has sparked some intrigue, revealing a hybrid-powered 4x4 called the LF-Xh.

But is this a forerunner to a new RX? It’s certainly a clue and the RX is ripe for refreshing, the current car celebrates its fifth birthday next year.

The vehicle is longer and wider, though not quite as tall, as the current RX.

Power comes from a V6 petrol engine and electric motor hybrid system, nothing particularly groundbreaking there for Lexus. But thanks to the success of the current hybrid RX400h, it’s unlikely Lexus will bother offering petrol or diesel-only versions of the new car.

If the LF-A concept car looks familiar, it's because we've seen the car at three previous motor shows - in 2005.

It had been mooted at previous shows that the LF-A would be the world's first hybrid sports car, but the two-seater shown in Tokyo is powered by a conventional V10 petrol engine, while the body is made of light carbonfibre reinforced plastic.
