This is Toyota's all-new small family car - the Auris.
Designed in Europe, the Auris sticks reasonably close to the Auris Space Concept shown at the Paris motor show last month.
It uses key Yaris styling traits, particularly its nose and high waistline, but the Auris is still fairly conservative.
Toyota says it was designed 'from the inside out', so while it has the same wheelbase as the Corolla it replaces, it's longer, wider and taller for a more spacious cabin.
From launch the Auris will come in three- and five-door variants, and with a choice of five engines.
Two petrol engines will be available - a 1.4-litre 96bhp unit and an all-new 1.6-litre version producing 122bhp. The diesel line-up comprises a 1.4-litre 89bhp engine and 2.0- and 2.2-litre units with 124bhp and 175bhp respectively.
Large amounts of pulling power mean the two larger oil-burners will be the fastest models in the range - the 2.2 D-4D can hit 130mph and reach 60mph in 8.1sec.
Few details of the car's interior specification have been released, but from these first pictures it appears to have a heavily sculpted dashboard, with a thick central 'bridge' that houses a raised gearstick and handbrake.
Toyota has chosen the Bologna motor show in early December for the Auris's official debut. UK sales will start in February 2007, ahead of the rest of Europe, with prices likely to start at about £12,000.
