Toyota has added a new diesel engine to its Auris small family car range.

The 1.4-litre engine has 89bhp and is available with five-speed manual or MultiMode semi-automatic gearboxes.

The Auris 1.4 D-4D can return an average of 56.5mpg and emits 132g/km of carbon dioxide, putting it in VED tax band C (£120 a year).

The car can reach 62mph from a standstill in 12 seconds (14.7 with the semi-auto gearbox) and on to a top speed of 109mph.

The engine is available in TR trim only, which comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, front foglamps, air-conditioning, chrome detailing on the rear bodywork, and heated, electrically adjustable door mirrors.
