The future for TVR sports cars like this Tuscan is in doubt

The future of UK sports car maker TVR is in disarray after news that the firm's Blackpool factory is to be closed by Russian owner Nikolai Smolensky.

Union leaders confirmed that 24-year-old Smolensky will close the plant, which has seen dwindling numbers of cars rolling off the line. Smolensky has made no comment on the closure, which affects hundreds of jobs, and company spokesmen were also unavailable for comment.

That leaves many questions unanswered for TVR owners and prospective customers.

While union officials said TVR executives had spoken of relocating production, there was no suggestion whether this might be within the UK or not.

If production does relocate and the company stays in business, existing owners will continue to enjoy the protection of their warranty. Otherwise, warranties could be rendered worthless.
