TVRs will continue to be built in Blackpool, according to the company's Russian owner

British sports car maker TVR will keep its manufacturing base in Blackpool.

In April, it was announced that TVR would close the Lancashire plant, and at the time it was unclear whether the company would relocate to another site in the UK or leave Britain completely.

However, in an interview in The Sun newspaper, owner Nicolai Smolenski confirmed he would keep building TVRs in the town and will finalise a deal to move to a new site in August.

'I did look at other sites in the Midlands and the South East, but neither had the skill levels we have here,' he said.

'The new factory can cope with up to 1000 cars a year and if we feel we can grow further – possibly up to 5000 cars – we will relocate within the area.'

Smolenski added that he expected to see one or possibly two new models unveiled at next year's Geneva Motor Show.
