Vauxhall's latest convertible, the Astra Twintop, has a starting price which undercuts its closest rivals.
The entry-level 1.6i 16v costs £16,995 – £100 less than Peugeot's 307 CC and £220 less than the Renault Megane.
However, when What Car? Target Price discounts are taken into consideration, the Megane is the cheapest car.
The What Car? Target Price is the most you should pay for a new car, because it factors in an achievable discount available from your dealer. The entry-level Megane CC has a Target Price of £15,728, compared with £15,831 for the 307.
The Astra TwinTop will be launched in the spring, and our mystery shoppers reckon you could haggle a dealer down to an expected Target Price of £16,425 when the car first goes on sale. Wait a few months and that discount should be bigger.
However, cheaper does not necessarily mean better – come back to whatcar.com next month for a full review of the Astra Twintop.
