Used cars of the week: load luggers from less than 7k

This is the time of year when people start wishing their car had more space. There are trips to collect the Christmas tree, to go Christmas shopping and to visit family in far-flung places across the country. A big boot and room for the whole family make life a lot easier.

With that in mind, here's our pick of the best load-luggers we've found in the What Car? Approved Used classifieds, ranging from an estate based on a small car right up to an MPV that can transform into a van:

Skoda Fabia Estate

The Fabia Estate is the smallest and cheapest car on this list but it doesn't short-change you for boot space. This 1.2-litre petrol model has a 505-litre boot that extends to a massive 1485 litres with the seats folded. This 2011 car has covered just 7000 miles, is well specified with air-conditioning and rear parking sensors and is a bargain at £6890.

Volkswagen Golf Estate

Volkswagen's Golf Estate is based on the popular family car which means that it's good to drive and can comfortably accommodate five people. The key difference is luggage capacity. The Mk6 Golf Estate has a 505-litre boot with the rear seats in place that grows to an impressive 1495 litres when the seats are folded. This is a 2010 1.4 TSI SE model that has 40,000 miles on the clock and is being sold for £9860.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate

Mercedes' E-Class Estate is famous for its cavernous boot. At 690 litres, it's bigger than anything else in the class, and once the rear seats are folded it grows to an incredible 1950 litres. That's more than enough room for a Christmas tree and some presents. This 2009 E220 CDI Avantgarde model is well equipped with parking sensors and climate control and has done 51,000 miles. It's yours for a very reasonable £12,995.

Seat Alhambra

The Alhambra is one of our favourite MPVs. It offers great value for money, space for seven and features such as sliding rear doors and folding rear seats that make it extremely practical. With all seven seats in use, the boot measures 267 litres, fold the five rear seats and that grows to a van-rivalling 2297. This model comes with a great specification that includes Bluetooth, climate control, parking sensors and the DSG semi-automatic gearbox. It's a 2011 car that's covered 31,500 miles and is on the market for £14,850.
