Vauxhall Adam Rocks

This is the Vauxhall Adam Rocks, a concept car designed to preview how the Adam Convertible will look when it goes on sale in 2014.

The Adam Rocks, which has just been revealed at the Geneva motor show, mixes semi-SUV styling elements with cabriolet cues. It sits 15mm higher than the regular Adam, and is 20mm wider. The car will remain front-wheel drive.

The Adam Rocks' roof follows the trend set by the Fiat 500 and the recently launched Citroen DS3 Cabrio in that the roof structure itself does not fold away. Instead, there's a large fabric centre panel that can be rolled back.

As with the Citroen and Fiat, the Adam Convertible is likely to adopt this mechanism for production because it preserves key 'personalisation' elements along the sides, such as the 'blade' beyond the door shutline.

An open-top version of the Adam has been planned since the car's launch, but Vauxhall will also want to offer the chunkier styling seen on the Adam Rocks to cash in on increasing demand for small SUVs.

Further Adam variants are likely to include a faster, motorsport-themed model; an Adam one-make rally series has just been launched in continental Europe.
