The new Vauxhall Mokka will cost from £16,995 when it goes on sale later this year.

The supermini-based SUV will come with three engine options: a 1.6-litre petrol, a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol, and a 1.7-litre diesel engine. The entry-level version of the 1.6-litre petrol in S trim costs £16,995, while the 1.7-litre diesel SE costs £23,490.

SE also comes with a 4WD system, which is standard on the 1.4-litre turbo, and as an option on the diesel car. Diesel buyers also get the choice of manual and automatic gearboxes.

The Mokka's starting price is slightly higher than those of rivals such as the Nissan Juke and Skoda Yeti, but Vauxhall says this is because its SUV comes with more equipment and a larger-capacity entry-level engine than the competition.

Standard kit on the S includes a digital radio, air-conditioning, a descent-control system, cruise-control, aux-in socket and a multi-function trip computer. Exclusiv brings Bluetooth, automatic wipers and a USB socket with iPod controls. SE adds a heated steering wheel and front leather sports seats.

Elsewhere in the range, the Mokka also offers a front-facing camera that reads traffic signs, while also acting as a Forward Collision Alert and a Lane-Departure-Warning system. A rear camera combines with front- and rear parking sensors.

The 1.7-litre diesel is the best in terms of CO2, with emissions of 124g/km and average economy of 60.1mpg, thanks in part to stop-start technology. It's also joint-quickest with the 1.4-litre turbo, with a 0-62mph time of 9.6 seconds.

Order books are open now, with first deliveries expected in November.
