The new Volvo V40 R-Design will cost from £22,295, while the V40 Cross Country will be priced from £22,995.

The sporty-looking R-Design gets a selection of visual additions, such as a reshaped front bumper and rear diffuser, silver door mirrors, and 17-inch alloys.

R-Design Lux versions add swivelling xenon headlights, automatic wipers, cruise control and keyless start.

The R-Design comes in a choice of six standard colours, and a bespoke shade called Rebel Blue.

Entry-level cars get the 113bhp D2 diesel engine – with CO2 emissions of 94g/km – while the range-topping T5 Geartronic R-Design Lux Nav costs from £31,390 and emits 185g/km of CO2.

The V40 Cross Country has a more off-road look, with standard kit including tread plates, silver roof rails, 16-inch alloys and black door mirrors. The range-topping Lux adds 17-inch alloys, leather upholstery and swivelling xenon headlights.

The Volvo V40 Cross Country costs from £22,595

Prices start at £22,595 for the entry-level 98bhp D2 Cross Country SE, and rise to £33,875 for the 250bhp T5 AWD Cross Country Lux Nav. The range-topper is the only version offered with all-wheel drive.

Both the V40 R-Design and Cross Country variants are available to order now, with deliveries expected to start in January.
