VW Concept Blue Sport: driven - Introduction

Volkswagen has a car that could finally depose the Mazda MX-5 as the king of the low-priced roadsters. The question is, will it ever be built?

It's called the Concept Blue Sport, and it's a gorgeous mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive two-seater. It was arguably the star of January's Detroit motor show, where it broke cover for the first time.

Now VW is letting a few people drive it – even though there's only one in the world and it's worth the best part of £1.5 million – to give us a taste of what we're missing.
