Volkswagen has slashed prices and increased specification levels on its Touareg 4x4 range.
Entry-level models using the 172bhp 2.5-litre diesel drop in price by £1730 and now cost from £28,600. Equipment levels continue unchanged with six airbags, air-conditioning, a CD stereo and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Now priced from £31,865 for the 2.5-litre diesel, SE models have come down by £865, but now feature more than £3000 worth of extra equipment. Heated leather seats, a DVD satellite-navigation system and six-CD autochanger join the previous kit roster, which includes dual-zone climate control and 18-inch alloy wheels.
The Altitude special edition also becomes a permanent part of the range, with prices starting at £34,630. The £2765 premium over an SE buys different bodykit, tinted rear windows and larger 19-inch alloy wheels.
Volkswagen recently unveiled a concept version of a new Land Rover Freelander-sized 4x4, which it plans to launch in 2007. The smaller 4x4 will be based on the chassis from its Golf small family car.
