Volkswagen has launched a special edition of its Golf Plus small family car.
The Golf Plus Dune costs £18,495 and has a ride height raised by 20mm and chunky bodykit to make it resemble a 4x4, although the car has no off-road mechanicals.
Extended wheelarches, textured plastic bumpers front and rear, silver roof rails and plastic rubbing strips down the side of the car all add to the off-roader styling. The interior has unique interior trim, too.
Power comes from a 104bhp 1.9-litre diesel engine, fitted with a diesel particulate filter to trap soot. Carbon dioxide emissions are 148g/km, and average fuel economy is 50.4mpg.
Standard equipment is generous. Air-conditioning, automatic lights and windscreen wipers, front foglights, electric front and rear windows, computer and eight-speaker CD stereo are all present, and each car has six airbags and stability control. There's also a leather-covered steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake.
Only 400 Golf Plus Dunes will be built, and it is available to order now.
