  • VW celebrates 30 years of Golf GTI
  • It could build 230bhp GTI to mark event
  • Car would be more powerful than many rivals

VW's Golf GTI is 30 years old this year - and to celebrate, this 230bhp concept has been unveiled

Volkswagen has produced a new 30th anniversary edition of its Golf GTI, which comes with an extra 30bhp.

At the moment, unfortunately, the 230bhp version of the GTI is just a concept, but it could well be produced.

Considering the company has built 20th and 25th anniversary models in the past, the chances of it appearing in limited numbers are fairly good.

The extra power would make the GTI more powerful than the Ford Focus ST and bring it close to other hot hatches such as the 237bhp Vauxhall Astra VXR and forthcoming Mazda 3 MPS and Seat Leon Cupra.

Besides the power boost, the 30th anniversary car has colour-coded front and rear bumpers, black 18-inch alloy wheels, and leather sports seats.
