Volkswagen has big plans for new cars based on its Passat platform, including a two-door coupe which revives the spirit of the Scirroco.
The Scirocco ran from 1974 until 1992, but with the new coupe, VW is thought to be pushing completely new styling boundaries. Our latest computer-generated images show how the new car could look.
The two-door car could go on sale as early as 2008 and is part of a wave of new niche models promised by VW bosses.
Also on the drawing board is a four-door coupe similar to the Mercedes CLS. This could either be built on the Passat platform, or on the underpinnings of next year's compact 4x4, which will be a rival for the new Land Rover Freelander.
An off-roader version of the Passat estate, similar to the Audi Allroad, would be a relatively simple undertaking for the manufacturer. There's no confirmation from Volkswagen whether this project will go ahead, however.
Our reviews are based on hard data and thorough testing in the real world.
