Its name might be inspired by a Cubist, but there's nothing square about Citroen's new C3 Picasso. In fact, it reflects the work of its namesake, bringing fresh thinking to a rather conservative field.

People looking for a practical small car already have a host of models to choose from, including the Honda Jazz, Nissan Note and Vauxhall Meriva. However, the Citroen stands out from this crowd by blending funky, concept-car looks with a cabin that's as clever as it is appealing.

The ancient Xsara Picasso MPV, which was probably around in Pablo's day, will be discontinued shortly after the C3 goes on sale, but the newcomer isn't a direct replacement. For starters, it's smaller, but it offers extra versatility and feels a whole lot classier.
