What Car? guide to hands-free phone sets - Jabra JX10

04 December 2006
Jabra JX10
Cost £100
For Sci-fi looks; tiny size; ear-hugging ability
Against Some tricky controls; too much background hiss
Verdict Good to use, but looks expensive against Jabra BT160

Looking like a prop from Star Trek, the Jabra JX10 is one of the most compact headsets in our test. It's very light and simple to fit, and snug once in place so it's unlikely to fall off. The unit also comes with a stylish desk stand and soft protective carry case.

The answering button is easy to find and use, but because the volume controls are too close to the ear it is hard to turn the sound up or down.

Set-up is fairly easy and the JX10's sound quality is good, although there is too much background hiss. The maximum volume isn't loud enough, although the microphone is sensitive and picks up lots of detail, while handling ambient noise well.
