What Car? guide to portable sat-nav - Car Trek 400

24 November 2006
Cost £300
For Intelligent keypad
Against Difficult to get started up
Verdict Not bad, but a little slow and bulky

We had a lot of problems getting this system to start working, and it took a while to acquire a GPS signal. However, once it was working the predictive address entry function was easy to use with an 'intelligent keypad' - letters that didn't apply were greyed out.

The screen wasn't the easiest to read, with white or red text on a dark background, and it was slow to recalculate a route once we'd thrown it off course, but speed cameras are shown and UK updates are currently free for a year.
