What Car? guide to... towing - Check your car's kerbweight

14 April 2008
Your car's kerbweight must always be greater than the laden weight of your trailer.

This way, the car has the upper hand, and you'll reduce the risk of 'snaking', where the trailer pulls the car from side to side.

In the case of caravans, the recommendation is that the caravan's laden weight is no more than 85% of your car's kerbweight.
