What Car? Q&A - BMW Sport or SE?

26 May 2005
Q: I am looking to buy a BMW 3 Series, up to one year old. On looking at availability, there appears to be more Sport models on sale than SE variants. These are usually £2000 more expensive than the SE model. What do I actually get for the extra money? Is it worth spending the extra?
Dave Lamyman

A: You get sports suspension, a six-speed manual gearbox instead of a five-speed ’box and some styling tweaks.

The six-speed transmission could help to improve economy a little and will mean more relaxed motorway cruising.

Sports suspension aims to provide added handling ability. You’ll have to try out both cars to see which you prefer and whether it’s worth paying more for a Sport.
