Q: I'm opting out of my company-car scheme. Do you know of any insurer that will carry over the five-year no-claims discount that I’ve built up? I’ve tried Norwich Union and Direct Line, but they said they wouldn't recognise them as it wasn't earned under my name.
Jenny BradshawA: Most insurance companies should be able to help. In fact, Direct Line said they would, as well as Privilege and Churchill.
However, you will need proof that you had sole use of a company car, not a pool vehicle, and that you drove it, accident-free, for the number of years you drove.
You also need to show that you have relinquished the use of a company car, and most insurers will insist that you are over 25 years old.
Proof can be in the form of a letter, on headed paper, from either an employer or fleet insurer.
