What Car? Q&A - Can I get a car with rear sliding doors?

09 June 2005
Q: I am looking for a new car with sliding doors but haven’t noticed any on the roads. Are there any cars on the market with sliding rear doors, either as standard or as an optional extra?
Steve Peachey

A: Peugeot’s new 1007 supermini has a pair of sliding side doors, serving the front and rear cabin, and costs from £10,085.

Otherwise you’re most likely to find sliding rear doors on MPVs. At the cheaper end of the scale are the likes of the Renault Kangoo, Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Fiat Doblo. Our favourite here would be the Berlingo. It is not only versatile and spacious but it’s also good to drive and offers good value for money.

Compact MPVs all have conventionally opening doors until the Mazda 5 seven-seater people carrier arrives in September.

Further up the scale, the Toyota Previa, Citroen C8, Peugeot 807, Chrysler Voyager, Hyundai MPV and Kia Sedona all have sliding rear doors.
