Q: I bought the wrong part for my Jeep from a Chrysler/Jeep dealer. I asked the dealer if I could exchange it for the correct part, and was told it was company policy not to exchange parts or refund money on parts returned.
Are they breaking the law by not exchanging the part or refusing to give me a refund? The part is new and has not been used.
Keith BuckleyA: You are entitled to a refund if the goods are faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose.
If they are not suitable, you are only entitled to a refund if you told the dealer what you wanted the parts for, and they supplied something unsuitable.
In most cases, retailers will exchange or refund goods bought in error as a mark of goodwill, but they are not obliged to.
