What Car? Q&A - Can I leave a cabrio with the hood down?

01 February 2007
Q: I’ve got a convertible car, and in good weather I don’t always want to put the roof up when I park the car if I’m only running a brief errand. What are the insurance implications? I always lock the car and put the alarm on.

It's time to get the magnifying glass out and check the small print of your insurance policy (or check with the insurer when you’re shopping around).

Chances are, however, that you will not be covered by your insurance for loss or damage by theft or attempted theft if you leave the roof down.

Another common exception is leaving windows open, so roll 'em up when you park.
