What Car? Q&A - Can I retro-fit air-conditioning?

15 March 2007
My car doesn't have air-conditioning - is it possible to install an after-market system?
Paul Hinchcliffe

A: It may be possible to retrofit air-conditioning to your car and there are a number of companies that offer installation kits.

Useful contacts could be Car Air Conditioning Supplies (tel 0845 226 9143, web www.car-air-conditioning-supplies.com), or try www.air-conditioning-installers.co.uk, an online directory of air-conditioning servicers and fitters.

Prices will vary, but expect to pay several hundred pounds at least.

Alternatively, if your car was available with air-conditioning as an option, you may be able to fit the system yourself from a similar model, depending on how competent you are at DIY.
