What Car? Q&A - Does it matter when I sell my car?

22 March 2007
Q: I am about to sell my much-loved roadster because my family is expanding. Is the old wives' tale true that I will get more money for it if I wait until the summer to sellit ?
Tony Reede, London

A: Seasonal variations don't affect car prices in the way they used to. Having said that, more people tend to long for a soft-top when the sun starts shining, so you may well find it easier to find a buyer during the summer months.

Bear in mind that the longer you wait, the less your car will be worth. Also, avoid selling around the time of new registrations, when the used car market is saturated with trade-ins.
