Q: The whatcar.com website specifies that the Audi A6 Avant is available with a 2.0 FSI petrol engine. However, according to Audi this version is not available – only the 2.0 TDI diesel or 3.2 FSI petrol are mentioned.
Jean-Eric MichaudA: We’re not sure who you’re talking to at Audi, but the 2.0-litre FSI is definitely available, along with plenty of other engines. Our contacts at the company confirm the engine has been available in the saloon and estate A6 ranges for about three months.
It’s only available with a manual gearbox, but in the Avant model it costs £25,910, does 0-62mph in 8.7sec, tops out at 138mph and returns 34.5mpg on the combined fuel cycle. If you’re a company driver you’ll pay tax based on 26% of its value.
Audi has a wide range of engines to choose from in the A6 range. As well as the engines you mention you also have the choice of a 177bhp 2.4-litre petrol for £26,510, a 335bhp 4.2-litre V8 at £44,810, a 178bhp 2.7-litre diesel from £28,415 and a 225bhp 3.0-litre diesel at £32,315.
For our money the 3.0-litre diesel offers the best value.
