What Car Q&A - Golf estate?

13 July 2006
Q: Your website is a very good site providing a lot of information in relation to my research on buying my next VW Golf. I am contacting you to find out if you are aware of VW's plans for bringing out a new Golf estate as I couldn't find anything on this subject.

In particular do you know if a new VW Golf estate is planned, and if so when is it likely to be launched?
Simon Fraser

A: The Golf Plus was meant to take the place of the last Golf estate, so originally the plan was to not have a replacement.

However, Golf Plus sales haven’t exactly set the world on fire, so Volkswagen has decided to go ahead with a estate version of the Golf.

It’s likely to be badged as a Jetta (which is the Golf-based saloon) and go on sale early next year. We'd expect to pay around £1000 more for the estate than the Jetta saloon, which means a starting price of about £15,500.
