What Car? Q&A - I need a secure supermini

03 August 2006
Q: My wife's employer has asked her to choose three potential superminis, with a view to leasing the most suitable. We're at a loss to decide which is the best for economy, security and anything else. She's a community nurse visiting clients most days in an impoverished area, hence the need for a secure car.

A: In this year's British Insurance Car security awards, Citroen's C3 Exclusive, the Volkswagen Polo SE and Skoda Fabia Elegance scooped the top three places. The awards recognise resistance to theft of, and from vehicles.

We rate the Skoda highest of these three. The Elegance has a 1.9-litre diesel engine, which returns 56.5mpg on the combined cycle.
