What Car? Q&A - Is the CityRover a good used buy?

01 June 2006
Q: I’m aware that the CityRover is cheap because its manufacturer, Rover, no longer exists, but does they make sense as a potential used buy? Are parts still available?
Nadia Smith

A: The CityRover is based on the Indica made by the Tata Motor Company in India. It has a capable 1.4 litre petrol engine, but the firm ride becomes uncomfortable over poor surfaces and the interior quality is below par. The steering is not adjustable and the pedal positions have also been criticised.

Depreciation was heaviest at the time of Rover’s demise, and used values do not look set to improve.

Parts are still available through third-party companies who specialise in MG-Rover parts distribution. XPart (www.xpart.com) is a good place to start.

The CityRover falls behind rivals in every respect, though, so consider other budget supermini options such as the Fiat Panda, Diahatsu Charade, Kia Picanto or Daewoo Matiz, before making a purchase.
