Q: I’m going to be driving abroad later this year, but only intend to drive during the day. Do I need to get my headlights converted? If I do need to change my lights, my car has high-power xenon bulbs fitted, so how can I convert these for Continental driving?
Neal ThomasA: Driving at night or not, you need to get your headlights adjusted for the other side of the road – you may need to use them in bad weather, too. Failure to do so could result in a fine.
Unlike conventional-style headlamps, modern xenon style lights cannot be adjusted with a kit. However, some have an inbuilt adaption system, using an internal mechanism, which redirects the beam of light.
Headlamps with this adjustment feature sometimes have a switch or lever mounted on the back of the headlamp casing, enabling you to alter it yourself quickly and easily. Check your car’ handbook or contact your nearest dealer for more information.
