Q: We're in the process of buying a new BMW X5. The dealer tells us we have to specify satellite-navigation and a mobile phone or no one will want to buy it from us in the future. Is he right? Are we entitled to say 'no thanks'? We don't want satellite-navigation and don't have a mobile.
AnonA: Of course you're entitled to say no – and you should. Don't let any dealer bully you into wasting money on optional extras that you don't want or need.
Some buyers will want sat-nav and an integrated mobile, but many, many more won't be bothered in the slightest.
In fact, on a car as popular as the X5, you're likely to find buyers queuing around the block when you're ready to get rid of it – you won't have any problems.
