What Car? Q&A - Target Price and part exchanges

02 March 2007
Q: I find What Car?'s Target Price information useful, but I cannot find any reference to part exchanges. Does this mean that the Target Price is only relevant to new cars bought without a part exchange?
John Timson

A: No - Target Price is definitely relevant to buyers wishing to part exchange their old car.

You should click here or look at the What Car? Price Guide to value your current car.

This will allow you to negotiate the best possible price for your part exchange, as well as haggle hard to get the Target Price on the new car you're buying.

A dealer may agree to sell you a car at a reduced price, but then offer you less for your old car. This is a sneaky way of clawing back lost profit. You should always push for both a good discount on the new car and a good price for your old car.
