What Car? Q&A - What did my car cost in 1990?

I’ve just bought a Peugeot 205 1.6 GTI, and was wondering if you could tell me how much it cost new 17 years ago? It was registered in January 1990.

Assuming your 205 didn't have any optional extras, the on-the-road price in January 1990 was £9835. The vast majority were fitted with sliding glass sunroofs, though, and this added around £300 to the bill.

The 205 GTI is widely regarded as one of the best hot hatchbacks ever built and, because of its great reputation, decent cars are now starting to increase in value.

So, if your car is in good condition and you keep it that way, you might actually make some money when you come to sell.
