What Car? Q&A - What do car abbreviations mean?

24 February 2006
Q: I've seen the letters 'AC' and 'SN' in brackets on some cars for sale. What does this mean?
Phil Brown

A: In the car trade, the letters 'AC' are short for air-conditioning and 'SN' short for satellite-navigation. Therefore the cars you've seen with these letters will have both features.

Other common abbreviations you may see are 'TC' (traction control), ABS (anti-lock braking system), CC (cruise control), and PAS (power-assisted steering).

You may also see FSH, which tells you that the car has a full service history.
