What Car? Q&A - What on earth is an Infiniti?

28 July 2005
Q: I recently returned from a trip to the Czech Republic and spotted this car parked in Prague. I have no idea what model it is and was hoping you may be able to enlighten me as to what it may be.
Nick

A: The car in question is an FX35 – a BMW X5-sized 4x4 made by the Infiniti luxury arm of Nissan.

The Infiniti brand isn't on sale in the UK yet, but Nissan does have plans to introduce it as soon as some diesel engines have been developed for it. Don't expect this to be until around 2008, however.

In the meantime, Nissan's recently launched Murano 4x4 might suit. Like the FX it's more suited to use on road than off, and is luxuriously appointed, too. It's only available with a petrol engine but you can read the Whatcar.com review here.

Currently, Infiniti is sold only in Taiwan, North America and the Middle East. Besides the FX, the brand also includes an executive saloon called the M35, a luxury car called the Q45, and the G35, which is a rebadged version of Nissan's 350Z coupe.
