What Car? Q&A - When did BMW start Efficient Dynamics?

17 July 2008
Q: When did BMW begin selling 1 Series cars with Efficient Dynamics? I want to buy one, but would like the bonus of the lower CO2 emissions and higher fuel economy they offer.
Martin Townsend

A: BMW introduced the Efficient Dynamics systems to the 1 Series in March 2007. However, some cars manufactured before that date are likely to have been registered after March, so you can't necessarily rely on the date printed on the registration document (V5C).

Your best bet is to check the official CO2 output, which is also printed on the V5C. If the car you're interested in matches the figures listed below, it will be an Efficient Dynamics model.

CO2 output
116i 139g/km
118i 140g/km
120i 152g/km
130i 197g/km
118d 119g/km
120d 128g/km
123d 138g/km
