What Car? Q&A - When does convertible Golf go on sale?

30 June 2005
Q: When is the new VW Golf convertible due to be launched?
Jason Bowden

A: The new Golf coupe cabriolet is due to go on sale in the early part of 2006 and will feature a folding metal roof, like the Vauxhall Tigra and Mercedes . Expect the VW carry a standalone name, to distance it from the Golf range.

The four-seater is expected to cost around £20,000 and will feature the 2.0 FSI turbo engine from the Golf GTI, and a more economical 2.0-litre turbodiesel.

Other manufacturers are also preparing similar-sized four-seaters with folding metal tops. The Ford Focus convertible is due next year, as is the Vauxhall Astra convertible.
