What Car? Q&A - When is the new VW Golf due to appear?

09 February 2006
Q: Helped by your Golf Match test, I am considering ordering one of these cars.

However, if the Golf Match is a 'run-out' model pending the launch of the next Golf, I would wait for the new car. Do you know when the next Golf is due?

Volkswagen is going through some major senior management changes at the moment, which means the arrival date for the next version of the Golf is a little hazier than it once had been.

Originally we anticipated seeing the sixth-generation version of the car go on sale next year, but it may slip back a little.

It's thought that new VW boss Martin Winterkorn is unhappy with the work that's been done on the new Golf, the Tiguan compact 4x4, Scirocco coupe and Passat four-door coupe, so they have all been sent back to the drawing board for reworking.

While it's unlikely that major work will have to be redone, there's an outside chance this may mean the new Golf won't be here until 2009.
