Q: I'm looking to buy a new VW Jetta in March, so with its launch just around the corner, I thought I’d have a look at press reviews of the car.
Your 'Every New Car Reviewed' New Car Guide had no review at all! Why do the motoring press seem to have a problem with the Jetta (previously the Bora)?
It appears that unless you can power slide it around a race track using lots of opposite lock, it's not worth writing about.
Peter HuntA: The Jetta made its first appearance in the February issue of the New Car Guide which went on sale on December 28th.
Perhaps you picked up a January issue – we couldn't feature the car in that issue because it went to press before we had driven it.
You can always find reviews of any cars which just miss issues of the New Car Guide, such as this one has, online at whatcar.com.
While driving performance is certainly an important part of our nine-point tests, it's not something we're obsessed with. That's why we look at safety, running costs, equipment, reliability and practicality as well.
We commend the Jetta for its ride and handling, and applaud it for its equipment levels, but sound a
note of concern about the quality of parts and build. Use the 'Car Search' drop-down menus at the top of this page to read the full Jetta review and find out more.
