What Car? Q&A - Which cars can fit into my tight drive?

05 October 2007
Q: I want to change my car because the house I have just moved to has a tiny driveway and my Peugeot 407 Coupe doesn't fit. Is there a good-looking, four-seater coupe that would squeeze into a gap measuring 189cm?
Steve Utton

A: The 407 Coupe is rather wide, measuring 212cm across (including mirrors). There are some narrower coupes that will fit in your drive - although there won't be much room to play with.

The Alfa GT is 188.2cm wide, so you'll only have 8mm to play with if the mirrors are extended. Fold them in, though, and parking shouldn't be too much of a pain.

The Mazda RX-8 also has four seats and is a little narrower at 185cm. It's a fine car, and even has four doors - but average fuel economy isn't great at 26.7mpg for the least-powerful version.

If that doesn't put you off, the Mazda's the car we'd go for.
