What Car? Q&A - Which diesels will the new X-Trail have?

24 May 2007
Q: Will the new Nissan X-Trail have the same 2.2-litre diesel engine as before, as well as a 2.0-litre unit?
Toni Hughes

A: The 2.2-litre unit won't be present in the new X-Trail, but a pair of 2.0-litre diesels will. Each has more power and better performance than the 134bhp 2.2-litre diesel, and economy is improved in one instance and only 1mpg worse in the other. So, there are no immediate plans for a larger-capacity diesel.

The 148bhp version of the new 2.0-litre provides an average of 39.8mpg, a 0-62mph time of 11.2sec and a top speed of 117mph. The 171bhp version returns 38.2mpg, reaches 62mph in 10.0sec and tops 124mph.

The previous 2.2 managed 39.2mpg, 0-62mph in 12.4sec and a 111mph top speed.
