Q: Have you reviewed the RAC sat-nav system? If so, where can I find the review? If not, which sat-nav system do you recommend for between £150 and £200?
Trevor ErskineA: Good news. We recently tested 30 of the latest portable sat-navs, including the RAC 200 and 220.
You can find the supertest by clicking
here.
We found the RAC 200 for £99.99 at Play.com, and liked its easy-to-follow maps and clear spoken instructions. Unfortunately, it was let down by a poorly designed cradle, and we didn't find the menus system particularly intuitive.
We couldn't find its more sophisticated brother, the RAC 220, for less than £269.99 (Comet.co.uk).
If you have between £150 and £200 to spend, we'd probably go for the TomTom One 3rd Edition. The unit we tested was the basic model, priced at £133.30 (Halfords.com).
However, spend closer to £200 and you'll get a bigger screen, as well as other options such as traffic monitoring and full European maps.
Another unit worth looking at is the Medion GoPal E3410, priced at £189.99 (Medionshop.co.uk).
It's not quite up to the high standards set by the TomTom in some areas, but it does come packed full of features, including traffic monitoring, an MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity and European maps.
