Q: My wife bought a Volkswagen Golf from a franchised dealer in an approved used scheme. The car was advertised and sold as a Golf 2.0 TDI GT, but when I recently checked the spare wheel, I noticed a stamp in the boot saying it was a 2.0 TDI Sport.
How do we get clarification on exactly what the specification is? Clearly, if it is a Sport, we were mis-sold the car and paid over the odds.
Gareth LewesA: We've checked this with Volkswagen and have been told that the 'Sport' specification in Germany is sold as 'GT' in the UK, so this is the likely reason you wife's boot is stamped as a 'Sport'.
The Customer Care Department (0800 711 811) can confirm this from the car's VIN (vehicle identification number).
On a MkV Golf, the VIN is stamped in several places, including under the spare wheel in the boot and under the bonnet, behind the engine.
