Q: Why does Ford not offer a Focus with an automatic gearbox with their 2.0 TDCi, despite fitting one to the 1.6 TDCi model.
A CoulterA: There is no automatic gearbox option on the 2.0 TDCi because there is not enough space under the bonnet to fit one. Diesel engines are generally bigger than their petrol equivalents and for front-wheel-drive cars it is difficult to fit everything in the space available.
Ford is not alone in this problem, and many manufactures don’t offer automatic options for mid-sized cars with larger diesel engines.
