What Car Q&A - Will Skoda update the Fabia vRS?

01 August 2008
I currently drive a 2004 Fabia vRS, which I absolutely adore, but I’m now looking to replace it. Do you know if, or when, Skoda is bringing out a new Fabia vRS?
If there isn’t anything on the horizon, can you recommend a sporty equivalent for a budget of £15,000?

Skoda has told us there are no current plans to launch a new vRS, so if you want to replace yours in the next few months, it will have to be with something else.

There are a couple of small and sporty diesels out there, such as the Mini Cooper D (£14,190 and 72mpg) and the Vauxhall Corsa 1.7 CDTi SRi (59mpg and £14,885).

If you don’t mind sacrificing a bit of fuel economy, there’s a much bigger choice of petrol cars, and they’re normally cheaper to buy.

The Mini Cooper 1.6, for instance, starts at £13,025 and will almost match your vRS for mpg. It will hold its value a lot better, too.

The Vauxhall Corsa SRi is also worth a look, and is priced from £14,060. You’ll be spending a bit more on fuel, but it’s quite a bit quicker and great fun to drive.
