What Car? Q&A - Will there be a new 4x4 Scenic?

21 July 2005
Q: Do you know whether Renault is thinking of making a 4x4 version of the latest Scenic model? If so, when is it coming out?
Brendan Burke

A: There are no plans to produce a four-wheel-drive version of the new Scenic like the previous-generation RX4. Renault is instead focusing on dedicated off-roaders to rival the Honda CR-V and Nissan X-Trail; these models might still suit your needs.

Renault’s 4x4s are being developed with the help of sister company Nissan, which has plenty of experience with four-wheel drive.

The company isn't particularly forthcoming about the models, but it has shown concepts in the past like the Koleos pictured here. Ignore the enormous wheels and you've got a good idea of what the 4x4 could look like.

We'd expect to see the car go on sale in 2007.
