What Car? Q&A - Will Toyota Hilux get 3.0-litre diesel?

24 March 2006
Q: Do you know if Toyota will fit its 3.0-litre diesel engine to the new Hilux in the future?
Peter Bodrozic

A: Unfortunately, Toyota does not plan to use its 3.0-litre engine in the UK Hilux, but there is some good news. From the start of 2007, it should be possible to buy a Hilux with a tuned version of the current 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine.

This will improve power from 102bhp to 120bhp, even if that is still 52bhp down on the rival Nissan Navara.

It is worth noting that it is possible to buy a 3.0-litre diesel in the UK, but these are imported by private traders and have never been sold through Toyota on an official basis.
