What Car? Used Car of the Year - Introduction

05 October 2004
Used car buyers have never had it so good.

The What Car? Car Price Index confirms that after three years of record new car sales, more vehicles are hitting the second-hand market. Combined with falling transaction prices in the new car market, the result is that today’s used cars are better, more widely available and cheaper than ever. Little wonder record sales have been predicted this year.

However, if you find the sheer scale of the choice bewildering, and you don’t know where to start looking, then the What Car? Used Car of the Year Awards are here to help you.

We asked a panel of industry experts to join What Car?’s regular used car test team to look at what’s available and recommend the very best bargains. Between us, we know which cars are out there, which are the best value, and how reliable they’ll be.

We’ve chosen winners in eight categories, and looked at three price bands within each one. So, whatever you’re looking for, and however much you have to spend, you’ll find a sensational car to tempt you.

All of these cars are certified bargains, easy to find, reliable and pleasure to own. Only one can be the best of the best, however.
